The Best Things Come Raw 🦪
There’s a certain kind of place that only exists in old Gulf Coast memories — the kind with mismatched stools, a cooler full of ice and oysters, a screen door that slaps shut behind you, and a hand-painted sign out front that’s been weathered by sixty summers of river air.
Boudreaux’s Oyster Bar is that place.
Or rather — it’s the idea of that place. A vintage-inspired tee built around a riverfront daydream of Gretna, Louisiana, where the pin-up girls smiled from oyster shells and “fresh shucked” was the only kind worth eating.
What this design is
A classic retro pin-up nestled inside an oyster shell, set against a Gretna, LA riverfront backdrop. Distressed textures. Bold typography. A cheeky Southern tagline — “Best Things Come Raw” — stitched right across the bottom like a wink from your grandfather’s favorite shucker.
It’s old-school oyster houses. Riverboats. Late nights on the water with cold beer and warm laughter.
Who it’s for
Seafood lovers who light up at the words “happy hour, dollar oysters”
Louisiana locals (and homesick transplants) who know Gretna isn’t just a town — it’s a feeling
Vintage Americana fans who collect roadside Americana the way other people collect stamps
Festival-goers hunting for a tee that’ll get stopped on the boardwalk
Anyone who wears their humor like a badge and likes their references with a little salt
Why I drew this one
There’s a kind of quiet poetry to a working oyster bar — the briny smell, the rattle of shells hitting a tin bucket, the soft clink of cocktail forks. It deserved a tee that didn’t just say the words but actually felt like the place.
The pin-up element is a nod to mid-century roadside signs — the kind painted on plywood and propped against a Cadillac. The “Best Things Come Raw” line is the part I’m most proud of. It works on three levels and that’s exactly how a good Southern joke is supposed to work.
